Teacher Rhoda...Community Helper Daniel. In Belize, a small country (the size of Wales roughly) in Central America

So what were two young crazy British people going to do out there in Belize? The search started and finished on the internet! ´teaching in Belize¨ yielded the one and only result neccessary for us..a small community in the heart of the Belizean jungle required a teacher..so Rhoda applied for the post of Grade 2 and was accepted!! When we arrived we assimilated pretty quickly as there was no language barrier to overcome and as the community was Canadian were not too far removed from what we were used to..the scenery was TOTALLY amazing.(even if outright dangerous! i.e pic below was taken a few metres from our front door..a smaller version of this was found on our wondow ledge INSIDE our house on night also..thank the Lord we saw it for they are deadly posionous!)
The climate was VERY hot and the people were EXTREMELY friendly..infact the only problem was having to decline dinner invites because we had far too many clashing on the same days as everyone was desperate to have us over! oNe great thing about the heat meant the excuse for plenty of SWIMMING in the lagoon and lakes (just ignore the stories of alligators and such..though they did exist usually it was over hyped by the kids!!) The jungle hikes were endless..as was the amount of palm trees..and the sunsets were the best we have ever witnessed...

Anyway beside the natural beauty of this place time to tell about the work we were involved in..
Rhoda worked at the school everyday teaching the Grade 2 children all subjects..first thing every morning would be Bible teaching which is the favorite for her..followed by maths, english, science, history, art, geography etc (the curriculum was a North American one-very nice and easy to use :)...School hours were 7.45 - 3pm.

Daniel expressed his interest in church work when we arrived and consequently the pastor there (also from Canada asked him if he would like to participate in a pastor training program which would be run on a weekly basis throughout our time in Belize)..of course he more than gladly accepted and began reading and studying a huge collection of books on the topic. As well as attending the training course he would daily help out people with whatever, whenever, and wherever they needed him in the community for example in the local cafe restaurant at the cash till and serving food (not cooking dont worry lol) to getting his hands dirty out in the field, riding on the tractors with the local farmers (this community was 90% a farming one) which Rhoda really loved as it reminded her of her childhood in rural Cornwall, England.

As time progressed more opportunites opened for us, including Rhoda having the opportunity to play her violin in the church, and Daniel even had the chance as part of learning pastoral training to preach the Sunday sermon in church. A new pastor was soon to be starting at the church, and Daniel was invited to partake in the pastor training, Daniel loved to do this to explore whether this is the full time future call God may desire for his life. He was also able to help lead the youthgroup, taking the weekly evening meetings for the young people for several months. We also held prayer meetings and gatherings in our house, including a few all night ones-just praying for people, sharing God¨s love reading the Bible etc. One thing we like to do the most is ivite people over for meals, for prayer etc and we touched the lives of many people through God in the community through this part of our mission.

We met some very nice people who had also been called to go and serve in this community that year we were there..including a Canadian couple, Chris and Cory, and a couple from the states Nathan and Melissa..guys thanks so much for all your help and support while we were there hope the pics remind you of some of the good times!

Yay! It is so great to look at these pictures and be reminded of that fun evening! Remember, Chris and I even baked Rhoda the same birthday cake! Haha
